Dr. Barb Samuels, B.Sc., M.Ed., Ph.D.

Dr. Samuels is the former Vice-President, Academic for the Southern Institute of Technology, Director of Planning for the University of Calgary, and Executive Director, Canadian Centre for Learning Systems.
Prior to that she worked for the Calgary Board of Education as a teacher, planner, and curriculum developer. Dr. Samuels has helped re-shape public consultation for the Governement of Alberta and, more recently, The City of Calgary. Her background is in planning, policy development, priority setting, and innovation. She has developed business plans for many organizations including: The 17 Regional Health Authorities, Alberta Health, Canadian University College, The University of Calgary, and SAIT. Her experience as an educator has included major responsibilities including: writing curriculum, workbooks and textbooks, curriculum/program evaluation, and learning innovations in technology. She is also considered an organizational change agent and has brought many innovations into the public and educational sectors including: New Media Learning, virtual education, technology integration in educational settings, Co-op education, performance measures, unique tools for public consultation, new curriculum materials, and the use of design to turn information into knowledge.
